호리아트스페이스는 최제이 개인전 《바람 없는 집》을 개최합니다. 최제이 작가는 ‘바람’과 ‘집’을 그려왔습니다. 비가시적인 바람의 흔적을, 들판 위에서 나부끼는 수풀과 일렁이는 붓질 속에 담아냈고, 그 가운데 홀로 서 있는 집은 감정의 끝이자 새로운 시작의 장소가 되어왔습니다.
이번 전시는 그간의 작업이 하나의 전환점을 맞이하는 자리입니다. 제주의 변화무쌍한 자연에서 받은 인상들과, 무의식적인 붓질 속에서 길어낸 감정의 결들이 한 화면 안에서 응축됩니다. 제주의 바람과, 하늘, 수풀 속에서 시작된 그림들은 시간과 감정, 삶의 흔적을 담아낸 풍경입니다.
작가는 바람이 멈춘 고요함 속에서 스스로를 바라보는 시선을 담아냈습니다. ‘바람 없는 집’은 외부 세계에 잠식되지 않고 내면을 지켜낸 공간입니다. 이 작은 공간에서 우리는 관조의 시선, 그리고 감각의 내면화를 마주합니다. 흩날리던 바람이 잠시 머무는 이곳에, 함께해주시기를 바랍니다.
HORI ART SPACE presents Leeward, a solo exhibition by Choi Jay.
Choi Jay has long painted "wind" and "house." The invisible traces of wind are captured in the swaying grass on open fields and in the undulating strokes of the brush. The solitary house standing amid these elements has served as both the culmination of emotion and the site of new beginnings.
This exhibition marks a turning point in the artist's practice. Impressions drawn from the ever-changing nature of Jeju Island and emotions surfaced through subconscious brushwork are condensed onto each canvas. Originating in Jeju’s winds, skies, and fields, these paintings are landscapes imbued with time, feeling, and the traces of life. In the stillness where the wind has ceased, the artist turns her gaze inward.
Leeward is a space that has preserved its inner world, untouched by external turbulence. In this quiet place, we are invited to encounter a contemplative gaze and the internalization of sensory experience. We hope you’ll spend a moment in this space, where the once-scattered wind comes to rest.
