9월은 연중 가장 뜨거운 아트마켓 시즌입니다. 국내 최대 아트페어인 ‘키아프(KIAF)’와 세계적인 명성의 아트페어 ‘프리즈 서울’이 동시 열려 많은 미술 애호가를 설레게 합니다. 특히 국제적인 시각에서 한국 미술을 크게 주목합니다. 호리아트스페이스의 이번 기획전 《도자이상(圖磁二想)-강민수ㆍ박성민 2인전》 역시 이러한 시기의 특성을 감안한 것입니다.
한국의 전통적 미감은 현대미술의 시원입니다. 그 전통미를 어떻게 현대적으로 재해석하고 이어갈 것인가 하는 점은 수많은 예술가의 숙원과제일 것입니다. 이번 두 명의 초대작가는 서로 다른 관점과 조형론으로 전통으로 해석합니다. 우선 강민수 작가는 특유의 현대적 감성으로 달항아리를 선보여 국내외에서 주목받고 있습니다. 적게는 40~50cm, 크게는 60cm 이상 대형 달항아리는 순백의 깊이를 더해 우리의 감성을 사로잡습니다.
‘아이스캡슐 회화’로 잘 알려진 박성민 작가는 이번에 도자기 표면의 질감을 표면에 추상적 이미지로 옮긴 신작을 발표합니다. 한없이 펼쳐진 미지의 행성 혹은 갓 태어난 원시적 대지를 만난 듯 신비롭습니다. 극사실과 추상의 기묘한 접점을 보여줍니다. 여기에 ‘예술적 감각이 깃든 디저트’로 유명한 우나스(UNAS)와 협력해 두 초대작가의 작품 이미지를 재해석한 아트콜라보 달항아리 케이크도 선보일 예정입니다. 한가위 보름달의 행복한 기운까지 담아낼 < 도자이상(圖磁二想) >전에 초대합니다.
September is undeniably the peak season for the art market, especially in Korea. During this time, Korea's biggest art fair, KIAF (Korea International Art Fair), coincides with the internationally acclaimed Frieze Seoul, creating an exciting event for art lovers. In particular, from an international standpoint, there is significant attention on Korean art. The exhibition currently on display, titled “Duo Exhibition, Two Different Discernments: Kang Min Soo & Park Sung Min on Ceramic,” reflects these characteristic trends and needs of the present time.
The essence of contemporary Korean art is deeply rooted in its traditional aesthetics. Reimagining and carrying forward traditional beauty in a contemporary style must be an enduring challenge for many artists. These two artists present examples of interpreting tradition through distinct perspectives and esthetic theories. Kang Min Soo has received significant acclaim both in Korea and internationally for his iconic moon jars, which reflect his unique contemporary sensibilities. His works, ranging in size from 40-50 cm to over 60 cm, softly resonate with our emotions through their striking depth of pure white.
Park Sung Min, renowned for his “Ice Capsule Paintings,” is unveiling new works translating the texture of ceramic surfaces into abstract images. These pieces evoke an awe-inspiring feeling, as if one is discovering a boundless, unknown planet or a newly formed primordial land. They represent a mysteious blend of hyperrealism and abstraction. In addition, an art collaboration piece — a moon jar cake inspired by the works of the two featured artists — has been created in partnership with UNAS, a brand renowned for its “artistic feel in desserts."
