호리아트스페이스는 2024년 청룡의 해 '갑진년(甲辰年)’을 맞아 첫 전시 《Happy Hori Day》를 개최합니다. 《Happy Hori Day》는 지난 2020년 개관 이후 호리아트스페이스의 전시에 초대되었거니 앞으로 함께 할 작가님을 한 자리에서 만나볼 수 있는 전시입니다.
언제나 그렇듯 전시는 작가의 독창적이고 개별적인 감성이 관객과 만나 교감하며 완성된다고 믿습니다. 한국 현대미술의 확고한 매력과 경쟁력을 몸소 보여온 원로작가님부터 새로운 비전을 만들어 가는 젊은 작가의 작품까지, 이번 《Happy Hori Day》는 보는 재미 그 이상의 의미를 담고 있습니다.

HORI ART SPACE presents Leeward, a solo exhibition by Choi Jay.
Choi Jay has long painted "wind" and "house." The invisible traces of wind are captured in the swaying grass on open fields and in the undulating strokes of the brush. The solitary house standing amid these elements has served as both the culmination of emotion and the site of new beginnings.
This exhibition marks a turning point in the artist's practice. Impressions drawn from the ever-changing nature of Jeju Island and emotions surfaced through subconscious brushwork are condensed onto each canvas. Originating in Jeju’s winds, skies, and fields, these paintings are landscapes imbued with time, feeling, and the traces of life. In the stillness where the wind has ceased, the artist turns her gaze inward.
Leeward is a space that has preserved its inner world, untouched by external turbulence. In this quiet place, we are invited to encounter a contemplative gaze and the internalization of sensory experience. We hope you’ll spend a moment in this space, where the once-scattered wind comes to rest.
