Artist Yoon Jongseok, often referred to as the “syringe artist,” creates his work using an unconventional tool—a syringe filled with paint, minus the needle. This distinctive method results in paintings that feel remarkably fresh and visually striking. Each piece is built up through painstaking precision and repetition, leaving behind a trace of labor that is as meditative as it is meticulous. Since the syringe delivers just one drop at a time, each dot must be placed individually, meaning that a single painting can require hundreds of thousands of marks. The process becomes an act of quiet endurance, embodying both dedicated craftsmanship and artistic conviction. Yoon describes his work as a way of recording fleeting moments from everyday life:
“I observe my surroundings and collect what catches my eye—almost like archiving memory. Through these fragments, I believe we can glimpse the tomorrow of today through the yesterday of today.”
His artistic practice begins with photographs—capturing daily scenes or details that resonate with him—and continues through a slow, deliberate layering of countless tiny dots, often smaller than a grain of rice. The result is a visual tapestry of memory and time, where the ordinary becomes quietly extraordinary. Despite their dense structure, Yoon’s works also carry a sense of spontaneity and gentle rhythm. They reflect a balance between control and intuition, repetition and discovery—offering viewers a moment to pause, look closer, and find meaning in the subtle traces of everyday life.
