CHOI SUKUN
최석운
최석운(b.1960)은 부산대학교 회화과를 졸업하고 홍익대학교 미술 대학원에서 석사과정을 마쳤다. 작가는 일상의 평범 한 순간들을 예술적 대상으로 치환하며, 화면 속에 조형적 긴장감과 특유의 정서를 그려내 왔다. 최근에는 ‘피규어’를 모 티브로 현대인의 본연의 모습을 박제한 듯한 정적인 화면으로 재구성하는 데 집중하고 있다. 그동안 갤러리 나우(서울, 2025), 가람화랑(서울, 2023), 국립중앙도서관(2011, 서울), 금호미술관(서울, 1993) 외 다수의 전시장에서45 여회 의 개인전을 개최하고 전남도립미술관(광양, 2021), 부산시립미술관(부산, 2021), 여수국제미술제(여수엑스포D 전시 홀, 여수), 제주도립미술관(제주, 2017) 등 다수의 기관 및 갤러리에서 기획한 그룹전에 초대된 바 있다. 팡센 예술구 창작스튜디오(2024, 후베이, 중국), 행촌문화재단 금요일의 섬(2021, 해남, 한국), 행촌문화재단 이마도스튜디오(2019, 해남, 한국), 광주시립미술관 북경스튜디오(2011, 베이징, 한국), 제주현대미술관 창작스튜디오(2010, 제주, 한국), 가 나아트부산 창작스튜디오(2008, 부산, 한국)에서 레지던시 프로그램에 참여했다. 작품은 경기도미술관, 경남도립미술 관, 광주시립미술관, 대전시립미술관, 부산시립미술관, 전남도립미술관, 금호미술관, 제주현대미술관, 청강문화산업대학 교, 행촌문화재단, 거제시, 교보문고 등 국내외 기관 및 개인 컬렉션에 소장되어 있다. 
Choi Sukun (b. 1960) earned his B.F.A. in Painting from Pusan National University and his M.F.A. from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Hongik University. The artist has consistently transformed ordinary moments of daily life into artistic subjects, capturing a unique sense of emotion and formal tension on his canvases. Recently, he has focused on reconstructing the essential nature of modern individuals through the motif of "figures," creating static compositions that appear as if they have been preserved or "taxidermied" in time. To date, he has held over 45 solo exhibitions at prominent venues, including gallery NoW (Seoul, 2025), Garam Gallery (Seoul, 2023), the National Library of Korea (Seoul, 2011), and Kumho Museum of Art (Seoul, 1993). He has also been invited to numerous curated group exhibitions at major institutions and galleries, such as the Jeonnam Museum of Art (Gwangyang, 2021), Busan Museum of Art (Busan, 2021), the Yeosu International Art Festival (Yeosu Expo Digital Gallery), and the Jeju Museum of Art (Jeju, 2017). Choi’s career is further distinguished by his participation in several prestigious residency programs, including the Pangxian Art District Residency (Hubei, China, 2024), the Haengchon Cultural Foundation’s "Friday Island" (Haenam, 2021) and Imado Studio (Haenam, 2019), the Gwangju Museum of Art Beijing Studio (Beijing, 2011), the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art Residency (Jeju, 2010), and the Gana Art Busan Residency (Busan, 2008). His works are represented in major public and private collections, including the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Gyeongnam Art Museum, Gwangju Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, Jeonnam Museum of Art, Kumho Museum of Art, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Chungkang College of Cultural Industries, Haengchon Cultural Foundation, Geoje City, and Kyobo Book Centre.
